A New Entry Point into Electric Rally Competition
Alpine has officially launched the A290 Rallye, a purpose-built, customer-focused electric race car. Developed to meet modern rally regulations and market demands for sustainable motorsport, the A290 Rallye is more than a prototype—it’s a production-ready EV designed to perform across multiple competition levels.
Priced at approximately $64,700 USD (€59,990 before VAT), the A290 Rallye positions itself as a serious gateway into electric rallying, while carrying forward Alpine’s legacy of motorsport-focused engineering.
Built for Rally, Engineered for Results
The A290 Rallye builds on the production Alpine A290’s platform but integrates motorsport-specific upgrades:
- 220 horsepower (160 kW) electric motor
- 300 Nm of torque
- ZF limited-slip differential
- 52 kWh battery operating at 400 V DC
- ALP Racing Suspension components for track-readiness
Unlike standard road-going EVs, this version is designed with rally-grade safety and performance in mind. A full FIA-compliant roll cage and Sabelt racing seats come standard. The braking system includes 6-piston monoblock calipers with 350 mm discs in the front, while the rear features 280 mm discs with a hydraulic handbrake—a must-have for tight, technical rally stages.
Dimensions and Drivetrain Highlights
The Alpine A290 Rallye retains compact proportions that suit it well for technical courses:
Specification | Value |
---|---|
Length | 3,997 mm |
Width (w/o mirrors) | 1,823 mm |
Height | 1,502 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,534 mm |
Front/Rear Track | 1,576 mm |
Battery Capacity | 52 kWh |
Max Power | 220 hp (160 kW) |
Max Torque | 300 Nm |
Transmission | Reduction gearbox + LSD |
Front Brakes | 350 mm discs, 6-piston calipers |
Rear Brakes | 280 mm discs, 1-piston calipers |
Suspension | ALP Racing shock absorbers |
Tires | Michelin Pilot Sport A |
Wheels | 18” EVO Corse 8x18 |
The car’s chassis is reinforced, and both McPherson (front) and multi-link (rear) setups are optimized for rally use. The limited-slip differential helps translate power into traction on loose surfaces—a key requirement for rally performance.
Track-Ready, But Road-Legal? No.
The A290 Rallye is not a homologated street car. This is a dedicated customer racing vehicle. It’s targeted toward teams and private drivers looking to compete in national or regional electric rally events or Alpine-backed one-make series.
Rally Debut Set for 2025
Alpine has confirmed the car’s debut event will be a one-off rally in France before the end of 2025, limited to select customer teams. This event will provide the A290 Rallye a real-world test in competitive conditions.
A wider rollout will follow, including:
- Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 10–13, 2025)
- Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine (September 4–6, 2025)
These events offer visibility and credibility while demonstrating the car's ability to perform under varied race formats and conditions.
Carbon-Neutral Focus Without Sacrificing Performance
Alpine markets the A290 Rallye as part of a carbon-neutral competition program. That’s not marketing spin—support infrastructure includes eco-friendly recharging systems. Depending on the event, charging may use solar, wind, or other low-impact sources.
This strategic move aligns with broader Renault Group initiatives and gives Alpine an edge among performance brands transitioning to zero-emissions motorsport.
Marketing Integration with Retail Network
Alpine has created an exclusive racing class —Alpine Stores Classification— to link the race car to its retail dealerships. This offers visibility for sales teams, and an opportunity to track brand engagement at a grassroots level.
Expect localized campaigns, digital activations, and physical events at dealerships with close links to the teams running A290 Rallye entries. This channel creates a feedback loop between racing data and customer engagement.
