The company is leasing a 40-tonne trailer tractor, manufactured by Hyzon and rented through hylane, which runs on hydrogen fuel cell technology. This is a milestone for Germany, as it is the first fuel cell-powered trailer tractor in its weight class to be approved for daily operation.

Additionally, the maximum payload of the hydrogen-powered truck is higher than that of electric trucks. DB Schenker is using the Hyzon truck in a pay-per-use model offered by hylane, a rental company specializing in carbon-neutral commercial vehicles.
