New Aston Martin DBX S: Performance SUV Built for Speed and Control

New Aston Martin DBX S: Performance SUV Built for Speed and Control

Overview

The 2026 Aston Martin DBX S is the brand’s new flagship SUV. It follows the DBX707 but raises the stakes with added power, sharper dynamics, and extensive hardware upgrades. Built to deliver supercar-level acceleration in a luxury SUV format, the DBX S isn’t just faster—it’s engineered for more precise control, greater durability, and long-distance comfort.

Powertrain: Twin-Turbo V8 With AMG Roots

The DBX S runs a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine sourced and modified from Mercedes-AMG’s M177 power unit. Engineers upgraded the turbos, revised the intake system, and recalibrated the fuel mapping to push output to:

  • 717 horsepower at 6,250 rpm
  • 664 lb-ft of torque between 3,000–5,250 rpm

These gains translate into track-level straight-line performance:

Performance MetricDBX S
0–60 mph3.1 seconds
0–62 mph (100 km/h)3.3 seconds
Top Speed193 mph
0–124 mph (200 km/h)11.4 seconds

The SUV sends power through a 9-speed wet-clutch automatic transmission—a significant improvement over the torque-converter setup in the standard DBX. Gear changes feel tighter and quicker, improving launch consistency and mid-range acceleration.

Drivetrain and Chassis: Sharper, Smarter, Faster

Aston Martin retained the all-wheel-drive system but made it more adaptable. The system can push 100% of torque to the rear wheels, allowing more dynamic handling in Sport+ mode.

  • 48-volt active anti-roll control
  • Electronic limited-slip rear differential
  • 4% quicker steering rack than DBX707
  • Revised rear subframe for increased stiffness

The DBX S rides on an adaptive triple-chamber air suspension that adjusts dynamically to road conditions and driving modes. The setup minimizes pitch, improves ride quality, and enhances cornering stability.

Braking and Weight Reduction

The SUV uses carbon-ceramic disc brakes:

  • Front: 420mm
  • Rear: 390mm

These save nearly 90 lbs (41 kg) over traditional setups. Combined with 23-inch magnesium alloy wheels, the result is better stopping power and less unsprung mass.

Exterior Design: Aerodynamic and Functional

Aston Martin refined the DBX S exterior for airflow and cooling. Key updates:

  • Wider front grille with enhanced airflow
  • New splitter and side skirts to reduce lift
  • Rear diffuser and quad exhaust outlets for aerodynamic balance
  • Hood with active vents for engine cooling

Interior Tech: Luxury With Operational Focus

Cabin features prioritize function and comfort:

  • Five-seat configuration
  • 16-way power front seats, heated and ventilated
  • Leather and Alcantara upholstery
  • 12.3-inch digital cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment screen
  • Rotary and touchpad interface
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay
  • 800-watt, 14-speaker premium audio

Safety and Driver Assistance

  • Adaptive cruise control with stop/go
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • 360-degree cameras
  • Autonomous emergency braking

Competitive Outlook

Competing in the ultra-luxury performance SUV category, the DBX S faces:

  • Lamborghini Urus Performante: 657 hp / $243,226 USD
  • Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT: 650 hp / $197,950 USD
  • Bentley Bentayga Speed: 626 hp / $263,000 USD

The DBX S aims to out-handle the Bentley and offer more refinement than the Urus. It blends power, agility, and day-to-day usability.

Bottom Line

The 2026 Aston Martin DBX S delivers measurable improvements in performance, handling, and drivetrain tech. It’s a purpose-built flagship SUV, engineered for buyers who want track performance with real-world utility.
