Skoda has released the first teaser images of the refreshed Scala hatchback and Kamiq crossover models. The two vehicles share the same MQB A0 platform from the Volkswagen Group and are aimed at the European market.
The teaser images show some of the changes that Skoda has made to the exterior design of the Skoda Scala and Skoda Kamiq. Both models get a new front bumper with larger air intakes, a revised grille with chrome accents, new LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights, and a redesigned Skoda logo on the hood.
The rear of the Scala and Kamiq also get some tweaks. The tail lights have a more angular shape and feature dynamic turn signals. The Skoda lettering is now placed in the center of the tailgate instead of on the left side. The Scala also gets a new roof spoiler and a sporty diffuser.
Skoda says that the interior of the Scala and Kamiq will also be updated with new materials, colors, and features. The automaker promises to reveal more details in the coming weeks.
The refreshed Skoda Scala and Skoda Kamiq are expected to debut in early 2024. Skoda has not announced any changes to the powertrain options or pricing for the two models. The current Scala is available with three gasoline engines (a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged unit with 95 or 110 horsepower; a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit with 150 horsepower) or a 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 115 horsepower. The current Skoda Kamiq offers the same gasoline engines as the Skoda Scala plus a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged unit with 90 horsepower that can run on compressed natural gas (CNG). All engines are paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Skoda Scala competes with other compact hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen Golf ($24,190), Ford Focus ($19,995), Hyundai i30 ($18,990), and Toyota Corolla ($20,025). The Skoda Kamiq faces rivals such as the Volkswagen T-Roc ($23,750), Ford Puma ($19,990), Hyundai Kona ($20,500), and Toyota C-HR ($21,445).
