Stellantis plant in Cassino goes electric with STLA large platform

STLA Large platform

Stellantis, the automotive company behind premium and luxury brands Alfa Romeo and Maserati, is boldly moving towards electrification. The company's Cassino plant in Italy, which produces some of its most iconic models, will now be outfitted with the STLA Large platform designed specifically for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares announced during his recent visit to the Cassino plant.

The STLA Large platform is one of four flexible vehicle architectures designed for Stellantis' electrification plan. With this platform, the company aims to create vehicles that can travel up to 800 kilometers on a single charge. The platform also allows the powertrain and other configurations to be adjusted to suit specific product designs.

The Cassino plant, which has a rich history of innovation and technology, is the second Stellantis facility to be appointed to produce vehicles on the STLA Large platform. The plant has operated since 1972 and is home to over 1,200 robots in fields like stamping, coating, painting, and plastic parts.

The plant has been making some significant changes to conserve resources and save energy. Since 2017, it has cut down on water consumption by half and generates solar power through photovoltaic panels in its parking lots.

Stellantis is investing more than 30 billion euros in electrification and software by 2025, a key part of its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions by half by 2030 compared to 2021 and reach net zero CO2 emissions by 2038. By the end of the decade, 100% of car sales in Europe and 50% of car and light truck sales in the United States should be BEVs.

The shift towards electrification is also aimed at doubling net sales by 2030 and achieving a double-digit adjusted operating margin throughout the decade. Stellantis aims to become number one in customer satisfaction for products and services in every market by 2030.

The move towards electrification at Stellantis is a significant shift for the company and the automotive industry as a whole. With the STLA Large platform, Stellantis can create vehicles that offer a clean, safe, and affordable driving experience while meeting the company's ambitious cost and quality targets. The Cassino plant is the perfect location for Stellantis to carry out its electrification plan, with its highly automated facility and commitment to conserving resources. As the company continues investing in electrification and software, we expect to see more innovative and sustainable vehicles rolling off the production line.
