Stellantis has expanded its market share in the low-emissions vehicle (LEV) industry

Stellantis grew as the market leader for low-emission plug-in vehicles (LEVs) last year. In a market situation that isn't very easy because of many factors, the Group strengthens its dominance in all the most critical market segments by confirming its role as the leader in the automotive industry's transition to a more environmentally friendly model.

Dataforce says Stellantis has a 32.4% share of the low-emission vehicles and light commercial vehicle market (up 1.6 percentage points from 2021). This is in a market where LEVs only make up 8.2% of the weight, which is the case in Italy. The Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe Plug-In Hybrid SUVs, both made in Italy, and the Fiat 500 electric car are the best-selling LEV car models. Stellantis' LEV leadership is even more important in the commercial vehicle sector, where the Group grew by 21 percentage points from 2021 to 48.2%. This indicates that the Stellantis Group manufactures one out of every two vehicles. According to data from Dataforce, the top two cars are the FIAT Professional (16.4%) and the Opel (16.2%).

The new Fiat 500 is the best battery-electric car

The new Fiat 500, made at Mirafiori, is the best of all the fully electric BEV cars. The FIAT brand icon was firmly in the first place (Italy), with around 6,300 registrations in 2022, proving it was the best. Since it came out, over 100,000 people in Europe have chosen the new 5Fiat 00 in just two years. With the launch of the all-electric new Abarth 500e, Abarth also started a new era.

4xe technology clarifies that Jeep is the best in the LEV market.

The success of Jeep and, in particular, its 4xe Plug-In Hybrid technology was also shown during the past year. The brand again led the LEV car market with a 16.3% share, just like it did in 2021. The Jeep Compass 4xe and Jeep Renegade 4xe SUVs, both made in Italy, are the best-selling rechargeable cars in their categories, and the Wrangler 4xe is a brand icon. With a 23% market share, the Jeep Compass is the best C-SUV. It is number one on the market. Renegade is second in the market for LEV passenger cars and has a 52% share of the B-SUV market.

The year 2023 will be a big one for PEUGEOT's efforts to make all its cars electric. By then, all its models will be electric, and the brand will have achieved two firsts. With the 100% electric e-208, PEUGEOT won the B-Sedan market for pure electric cars. The Peugeot e-2008, a small SUV that runs on electricity alone, has reached the top of its class. As for alternatives to the Leone in the world of plug-in hybrids, the New 308 has become the best C-segment station wagon. From 2023 on, PEUGEOT will be able to sell all its models in an electric version. This will be possible thanks to new hybrid engines that will be used in the 3008 and 5008 SUVs. The new Peugeot 408, the most talked-about car in recent months, has also been available to order for a few weeks.

The DS4 was the best hybrid sedan.

The new DS4, which has been out for just over a year, is already on the podium among hybrid sedans "with the plug" in the C segment, with a market share of over 12%. Since 2019, the French luxury brand has had a line of cars that are all electric. By 2020, it will be the multi-energy brand in Europe with the lowest CO2 emissions. For DS, aiming for total electrification as early as 2024, the LEV mix in the Italian passenger car market is three times higher than the market mix (27% vs. 9%).

Citroen's top-of-the-line C5 X Plug-In Hybrid and C5 Aircross Plug-In Hybrid SUVs are good first cars.

The new flagship of the brand, the new Citroen C5 X Plug-In Hybrid, and the family SUV, the new Citroen C5 Aircross Hybrid Plug-In, have helped the LEV Citroen range gain popularity on the Italian market. In particular, the new Citroen C5 X Hybrid Plug-In is already in second place in the PHEV sedan D segment after only a few months. The success of the Citroen Ami-100% electric also kept going. Since the beginning of the year, it has had more than 55% of the market for light electric quadricycles.

Opel has also done well in passenger and business car markets.

Similar sales successes for Opel. Corsa is second in the B-Sedan segment for passenger and commercial vehicles. In the B-SUV segment, Opel Mokka-e is among the top three. The new Opel Astra electric car will be added to the brand's lineup in 2023. There are already 12 electric models in the brand's lineup, but the new Opel Astra Electric will add to that number. This way, Opel is proceeding quickly to fulfill its pledge to become an electric brand by 2028.

The public rewards the metamorphosis of Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo has a very exciting 2022. December ends a year of steady growth with a market share of 1.4%, the best in the last three years.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia are still very well-liked by both private and business customers. In particular, Alfa Romeo Stelvio confirms its leadership in the D-SUV segment for the fourth consecutive year, with a market share of 16.2%, further growth compared to 2021, while Giulia confirms its leadership among non-hybrid sedans in the D segment. In the next few weeks, you'll see the even more attractive and high-tech New Giulia and Stelvio at all Italian dealerships.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale, the brand's first electric compact SUV, was the year's clear winner. The Alfa Romeo Tonale ends 2022 with a record number of orders, which lets the brand plan for 2023 with top goals in the segment. This is possible because the range is now complete with the 280 HP Plug-In Hybrid Q4 versions.

A real "metamorphosis" of the brand, in which Tonale plays a key role and quality and profitability push the brand to the top of the premium segment.

With almost 41,000 registrations (40,991), the Lancia Ypsilon continues to lead segment B. This is the fourth year that it has been the best-selling car in its category. The Lancia Ypsilon is also the second best-selling car on the Italian market, with a 15.3% market share, the best and up +1.2 percentage points from 2021. Lancia got 3.1% of the market, up +0.1 percentage points from 2021. Even though it has been around for four generations and over three million units have been sold, the Lancia Ypsilon still has a lot of fans in Italy, proving that it is a valid style icon.

Stellantis's Country Manager in Italy, Santo Ficili, says, "2022 was a challenging and important year in which Stellantis consolidated its absolute leadership in the sales of low-emission vehicles in Italy." He said that this is the outcome of our strategic commitment to electrification based on investments totaling more than 30 billion euros and will be complete by 2025. As the market leader, it is our job to help Italians switch to electric transportation. We know how to do it: in 2023, the Group's electrification strategy, which calls for 100% electric and Plug-In Hybrid engine options for each new model, will keep going.
