New Peugeot E-208 GTi: 280 hp of Electric Precision Hits the B-Segment

Peugeot E-208 GTi

Fast Facts First

  • Power: 280 hp
  • Torque: 345 Nm (254 lb-ft)
  • 0–62 mph: 5.7 seconds
  • Top Speed: 112 mph
  • Battery: 54 kWh (gross)
  • Range: 217 miles (WLTP est.)
  • Charging: 20–80% in under 30 minutes (100 kW DC)

Peugeot E-208 GTi Brings Back the Badge, With 280 Electric Horses

The Peugeot E-208 GTi is back. This time, it's electric, track-ready, and built by Peugeot Sport. The new hot hatch enters the B-segment EV market with performance data that challenges combustion-era assumptions. It’s no styling exercise. It’s numbers. Results. Engineering.

40 Years After the 205 GTi, Peugeot Aims for Segment Leadership

Peugeot could’ve played it safe. Instead, the brand delivered the most powerful front-wheel-drive electric hot hatch on the European market. This isn't nostalgia. It's data-backed performance, paired with French manufacturing and motorsport input.

Key Dimensions and Performance Metrics

Built for Precision: The Chassis Speaks First

Stance comes from more than styling. Peugeot dropped the ride height by 30 mm and widened the tracks—56 mm at the front, 27 mm at the rear. That stance delivers what the specs promise. Grip, control, and accuracy.

  • Limited-slip differential in the reducer unit helps put down power.
  • Custom suspension with hydraulic stops improves mid-corner compliance.
  • Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires give it the grip to match the numbers.

The chassis was developed by Peugeot Sport, the same team behind the 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar. Track learnings directly informed decisions around thermal management, energy recuperation, and brake optimization.

Braking Matches Power

Front rotors measure 355 mm, paired with four-piston calipers. Rear rotors remain unchanged from the standard E-208, emphasizing efficiency over excess. Brake cooling gets a boost from functional wheel perforations, referencing the 205 GTi’s “pepper pot” design.

This setup prioritizes consistency under heat, not visual drama.

Cockpit: Small Wheel, Big Intent

Peugeot sticks with its i-Cockpit layout. The small, red-trimmed steering wheel, Alcantara surfaces, and red-accented front buckets leave no confusion: this is a driver’s EV.

  • Red interior lighting by default (adjustable)
  • Performance-themed digital cluster
  • Integrated seats with enhanced lateral support
  • Perforated leather + Alcantara wheel with red centering mark

The cockpit is purpose-built, not luxury-focused. Peugeot calls it “immersive.” It’s direct.

Exterior: Functional and Familiar

Forget aggressive wings or exaggerated scoops. The Peugeot E-208 GTi uses aero discipline, not drama.

Key elements:

  • Front splitter integrated into the bumper
  • Gloss-black rear diffuser with central fog light
  • Red wheel arch accents, referencing the 205 GTi
  • LED triple-claw lighting signature, front and rear
  • New exclusive bright red paint, exclusive to GTi

This hot hatch doesn’t scream for attention. It rewards those who notice.

Battery, Range, and Charging

A 54 kWh battery (gross) powers the front-mounted electric motor. Real-world range is estimated at 217 miles (WLTP), assuming a mixed cycle. More importantly for track days, thermal performance holds under pressure.

  • Peak DC charge rate: 100 kW
  • 20% to 80% charge time: Under 30 minutes
  • Home charging: 4 hours 40 minutes (7.4 kW WallBox)
  • Smart charge programming and cabin preconditioning: Via MyPEUGEOT app

Vehicle-to-load (V2L) allows external power for bikes or equipment. Trip Planner integration helps drivers plot charging on longer routes.

French Manufacturing, Racing Input

Every key component of the Peugeot E-208 GTi is developed in France.

  • Electric motor: Built in Trémery, France (Emotors joint venture with Nidec)
  • Battery: Sourced with CATL tech, French-specific cooling system
  • Chassis, suspension, brake tuning: All by Peugeot Sport
  • Tyres: Michelin, developed with input from endurance racing teams

This isn't an off-the-shelf EV. The E-208 GTi shares design DNA with Peugeot’s WEC program, not its compact hatchbacks.

Infotainment, Warranty, and Connectivity

Peugeot backs up performance with complete user support:

  • i-Connect Advanced infotainment with TomTom live navigation
  • Voice control (“OK PEUGEOT”)
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • High-quality Alcantara and fabric seats
  • Standard WallBox home charger included
  • 8-year / 100,000-mile warranty on battery and vehicle

Peugeot includes access to 1 million+ European charging points through its Free2Move service.

Peugeot Aims to Reset the Hot Hatch Bar—Electrically

The E-208 GTi doesn’t chase nostalgia. It surpasses it. With 280 hp and track-validated cooling and chassis tech, it takes the B-segment hot hatch into the electric age.

No manual transmission. No front grille drama. Just results.

Peugeot E-208 GTi pricing hasn’t been confirmed, but early estimates place it around $45,000 USD. At that level, it competes not only with electric compacts but undercuts many legacy hot hatches on performance-per-dollar.

What Matters Most: Real-World Value

Peugeot says this GTi is “more GTi than ever.” That checks out—based on:

  • Best power-to-weight ratio in its class
  • Race-team development from design to final tune
  • Charging performance that supports daily and track use
  • Durable, warranty-backed electric ecosystem

In short, 280 electric horses in a subcompact chassis tuned by Peugeot Sport is what you’re getting. No fluff. Just raw, applied expertise.
