On March 9, 2026, Nexperia China achieved small-batch mass production of bipolar discrete devices on its independently developed 12-inch platform — the first time a power semiconductor IDM in mainland China reached 12-inch mass production. Nexperia China also became the first company in the world to master the design, development, and mass production of bipolar diodes and transistors on 12-inch wafers.

Nexperia China holds a globally leading position in automotive-grade ESD protection devices and small-signal diodes and transistors. Schottky rectifiers produced on the 12-inch platform have passed AEC-Q101 automotive certification, and trials of brand-new ESD protection devices have also succeeded, with applications in devices such as mobile phones. The product line covers diodes, bipolar transistors, ESD protection devices, and more, fully serving three core industries: automotive, industrial, and AI servers.
For automotive Ethernet, Nexperia China has launched the first ESD protection diode that meets Open Alliance requirements for 10BASE-T1S applications, providing up to 18 kV of single-line ESD protection and essentially covering all automotive circuit board network voltages: 12V for passenger cars, 24V for trucks and large commercial vehicles, and 48V for hybrid and electric vehicles.
It is worth emphasizing that this 12-inch project was not a simple port of 8-inch products. It was a comprehensive optimization and rebuild of chip structure, process integration, and manufacturing flow, delivering clearly lower unit cost and higher process precision — a dual upgrade in both quality and cost for automotive protection devices. According to industry information, the effective chip output of a single 12-inch wafer is about 5.7 times that of a 5-inch wafer, about 4 times that of a 6-inch wafer, and about 2.2 to 2.4 times that of an 8-inch wafer. In terms of per-chip cost, this means a reduction of about 70% compared with 5-inch, about 60% compared with 6-inch, and about 50% compared with 8-inch.
Development efficiency deserves attention too. Nexperia's product development cycle used to take 24 to 36 months; after Nexperia China rebuilt its R&D system, new product development took only 6 to 12 months. The localization ratio of some core devices has risen from under 20% to nearly 100%.
