Volkswagen will show the public the new ID3 in the spring of 2023. The second-generation ID3 will be the next big thing in the success story of the ID family: more than 500,000 ID models, built on the modular electric platform (MEB), have been sent to customers worldwide. The ID3 small electric car is made in Germany at plants in Zwickau and Dresden. But next year, the main Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg will be added to the production network. This is so that the fully electric compact car can meet the high level of customer demand for it.
"The new Volkswagen ID3 shows that we care about quality, design, and the environment. The design has grown, and the materials used inside have been upgraded ", says Imelda Labbe, Volkswagen Board Member. When making the new version, the development team took into account many customer suggestions to make the product better and improve the standard equipment package: "We put the needs of our customers first at all times. So, we pay close attention to what they say and try to make sure our products meet their needs ", Labbe adds.
The 2023 Volkswagen ID3 comes with the most up-to-date software, which makes the system run better and lets it get updates over the air. The standard equipment package has also been improved. It now comes with a display 12 inches across, a luggage compartment floor that can be removed, and a center console with two cup holders.
The new Volkswagen ID3 makes charging even more accessible and convenient with features like Plug & Charge and the intelligent EV Route Planner. In the ID3, VW uses the newest generation of fully integrated assistance systems. Two great examples of this are Travel Assist and Park Assist Plus, both of which can be added as an option.
"Part of Volkswagen's mission is to offer state-of-the-art technologies and innovations in all models, even the smallest ones, and the Volkswagen ID3 is a great example of this," says Kai Grünitz, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for Development. "For example, with the latest Travel Assist, we are taking the next step toward highly automated driving using cloud data."
From December, German customers can order the Volkswagen ID3 Life, Business, Style, Max, and Tour models already set up. The Volkswagen ID3 Life starts at €43,995 (including VAT) before subtracting the environmental bonus, where applicable). Due to the high number of orders, customers who place an order now should get their new Volkswagen ID3 starting in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Volkswagen thinks that the ID3 Pro models Life, Business, Style, Max, and ID3 Pro S Tour will be delivered to customers in the fourth quarter of 2023. This is because semiconductors are in short supply, and there are already a lot of orders. Based on what has been planned, production of the improved Volkswagen ID3 will have begun by this time. This means the customer will not get the vehicle shown in the configurator or on the contract when they place their order. Instead, they will get the ID3 model with more features. The small electric car may differ from what was ordered, but any differences will be to the customer's advantage, except for ID steering wheels used to be covered in leather, which will be changed to a high-quality leather substitute. Due to the above changes to the design, the WLTP figures for the vehicles' fuel consumption and range may be up to 2% different from the current figures.
