Candela is a Swedish electric boat startup that wants to hasten the transition to fossil-fuel-free lakes and oceans. Candela's vessels consume up to 80% less energy at high speeds than standard motorboats thanks to computer-controlled hydrofoils, which lift the hull above the surface and minimize water friction.
Candela's boats have various advantages over conventional boats and have a greater range and better performance than other electric boats. Candela's boat combines a low environmental impact with improved passenger comfort and an exhilarating sailing experience, thanks to low noise levels, no cooling system, and zero emissions.
Candela was founded in 2014 by engineer Gustav Hasselskog and released its first production model, the Candela C-7, in 2019. The Candela C-7 achieved multiple world records for electric boats, including a range of 50 nautical miles at 20 knots. The limited manufacture of 32 units came to an end in 2021.
Candela launched the larger, high-volume successor Candela C-8 in 2021, intending to make electric boats commonplace. It has a range of 50 nautical miles at 22 knots and a top speed of 30 knots, accommodating eight passengers. It is 400% more efficient than other powerboats on the market since it is powered by the Candela C-POD, an electric pod engine created in-house by Candela's 50-strong engineering team. The C-8 is the best-selling electric premium boat, with over 150 units sold.
