  3. The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ with 560 kW and 250 km/h

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ with 560 kW and 250 km/h

Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+

At the IAA Mobility, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+. The AMG version of the luxury electric car has the performance of a Porsche Taycan Turbo S, but it also intends to impress with its opulent interior.

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is the company's first battery-electric model. A few years ago, the Affalterbach-based performance division had already fitted four electric motors to select SLS sports cars, but it was not officially a production model.

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric car, on the other hand, will have to make do with two engines despite speculations of three engines, such as those seen in the Audi e-tron quattro S or the Tesla Model S Plaid. In most instances, the performance of the two-motor system should suffice. It has a maximum torque of 950 Nm and a power output of 484 kW in its most basic form. As a result, the Mercedes-AMG EQS should accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 220 km/h.

With the optional "AMG Dynamic Plus" package, the "Boost function" can produce up to 560 kW of power and 1,020 Nm of torque in "Race Start" mode. The conventional sprint time is 3.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, with a top speed of 250 km/h. By the way, both acceleration values can only be obtained if the battery is at least 80% charged, according to AMG.

Only a big battery is offered for the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric car.

AMG has refined the inverter software to improve the electric motors in addition to the adapted PSM on the front and rear axles (the one on the rear axle has two windings, like in the EQE). As a result, the recuperation output, for example, should be at least 10 kW more than with the EQS 580 4MATIC.

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ features the larger of the two batteries in the EQS, with 107.8 kWh of usable energy content, as indicated by the little "+" in the model name. The "+" indicates that an AMG-EQS with a smaller 90 kWh battery could be offered in the future, but this is just speculation.

The AMG version matches the series model in terms of charging capacity: the fast charger can deliver up to 200 kW, and electricity for 300 kilometers may be recharged in 15 minutes. A factory-installed 11 kW AC charger is also available, with a 22 kW option.

In terms of WLTP kilometers, the standard range varies depending on the equipment and the "AMG Dynamic Plus" package. Still, it is between 526 and 580 kilometers - roughly 100 kilometers less than the all-wheel-drive Mercedes EQS 580 4MATIC. This isn't just because of the improved performance: Mercedes claims a drag coefficient of 0.23 with the AMG-specific alterations to the fenders and other rims, rather than the 0.20 of the regular model.

"We also ensure that our models based on the EVA2 Group platform meet our AMG brand promise when it comes to electrification," adds Jochen Hermann, Technical Director of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. "In this area, too, our consumers can expect an emotional and passionate driving experience. This is achieved using AMG-specific technologies, particularly in the areas of drivetrain, chassis, brakes, and, most importantly, sound."

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric car provides a "special sound experience" in two forms, thanks to its unique loudspeakers, shakers, and sound generator ("Authentic" or "Performance"). This happens not only on the inside but also on the outside of the electric car.

Mercedes is yet to announce when and at what price the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ will be available. @via Mercedes-AMG.
