It is not the first flying car that we know, far from it. The famous PAL-V Liberty has been teaching us videos and demos for years. And Toyota or Hyundai have already announced projects with this technology. However, the new AirCar flying car is completing stages and passing all phases with great success, such as its first trip of 80 kilometres between the cities of Nitra and Bratislava in just 35 minutes. But what is this project?
Developed by the Klein Vision company and designed by Stefan Klein, AirCar is a new hybrid vehicle capable of going from flying car to conventional car with the push of a button and in less than 3 minutes. At the moment it is capable of carrying two people inside, it is a two-seater, weighs 1,100 kg, can carry an additional load of up to 200 kilos in the air and, as a great curiosity, it uses a BMW engine.
Yes, because there are no electric motors here anymore. The AirCar flying car is fitted with a 1.6 BMW gasoline engine, which develops 140 hp of power. The company has assured that, shortly, it intends to opt for a higher-performance engine.
Under the supervision of the Civil Aviation Authority, the AirCar as a prototype has already completed up to 40 hours of flight through Piestany airport in Slovakia, reportedly reaching an altitude of around 2,500 meters and a speed of 190 km/h. However, the great news is that this time it has completed the first trip between cities.
According to the company, the journey between Nitra and Bratislava, which we have already announced has been possible in just 35 minutes, is usually completed by car and on the road in at least an hour. The AirCar, through the air, has been able to fly at a speed of 170 km / h to cover this first trip of 80 kilometres.
Stefan Klein has assured after this first trip that "the flying car worked perfectly. This flight initiates a new era of dual transport vehicles, opens up a category of transport and restores the freedom associated with cars to the individual".
