2026 Nissan Frontier Pro PHEV Delivers 402 HP and 84-Mile EV Range

2026 Nissan Frontier Pro Plug-In Hybrid

The 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) marks a significant development in Nissan’s global electrification strategy. This electrified pickup was first unveiled in Beijing, where Nissan showcased multiple electrified vehicles aimed at aligning with China's carbon neutrality targets.

The Frontier Pro PHEV is built by Nissan’s joint venture with Dongfeng, under the Venucia sub-brand. While initially targeting the Chinese market, speculation points to potential expansion into North America’s hybrid pickup segment.

Powertrain and Performance: High Output Meets Practical Range

This model combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine with an electric motor integrated into an 8-speed automatic transmission. Total output reaches 402 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.

It features a 36.7 kWh battery enabling up to 84 miles of electric-only range (CLTC). This range supports fully electric commuting in urban areas while the hybrid system delivers power for long hauls or towing.

Drive Modes and Terrain Management: Built for Versatility

The Nissan Frontier truck includes a full-time AWD system with an electromechanical locking rear differential. It offers four distinct drive modes:

  • EV Mode – Pure electric for city driving
  • Hybrid Mode – Balanced power and efficiency
  • Performance Mode – Maximum output for towing or rapid acceleration
  • Snow Mode – Enhanced traction on slick surfaces

Dimensions and Design: Bigger, Bolder, Functional

The 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro Plug-In Hybrid model measures 217.3 inches long, 77.1 inches wide, and 76.7 inches tall, with a 130-inch wheelbase. Curb weight falls between 5,511 to 5,600 pounds, depending on the setup.

Its maximum towing capacity is 7,716 pounds, which exceeds that of the current U.S. Frontier. Notable design features include:

  • LED light bar inspired by the D21 Hardbody
  • Electrically retractable bed cover
  • Optional off-road skid plates and roof lighting

Interior Technology and Features: Tech-Forward Cabin

Inside, a 14.6-inch touchscreen manages navigation, media, and hybrid system controls. A 10-inch digital instrument cluster shows drive mode, power flow, and range.

Comfort options include heated, cooled, and massaging front seats. Rear passengers benefit from increased legroom and USB-C charging ports.

The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system provides up to 6 kW of external power for powering:

  • Power tools
  • Outdoor gear
  • Household appliances during outages

Market Strategy and Availability: Launching in China First

Nissan will release the truck in China by late 2025. It is produced under the Dongfeng-Venucia joint venture to comply with Chinese electric vehicle incentives and dual-credit policies.

There are no confirmed plans for a U.S. launch, though executives are monitoring demand. Factors like market growth and state-level EV incentives could influence a future North American release.

Conclusion: A Preview of Nissan’s Electrified Truck Future

The 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro Plug-In Hybrid brings together power, range, and utility. With its 402-hp hybrid system, long electric range, and 6 kW V2L power output, it serves both professional and recreational users.

Though it launches in China, the model signals Nissan’s intent to participate in the rising demand for hybrid pickups globally. It’s a strategic entry that could shape Nissan’s mid-size truck roadmap in the coming years.
