The Nissan Frontier Ronin gives Nissan's midsize pickup the hardware for a serious desert-running argument: twin turbochargers, a much wider stance and long-travel suspension. Nissan revealed the concept ahead of the 2026 SEMA Show, which runs November 3-6 in Las Vegas. The engineering looks ambitious. The missing horsepower figure keeps the bragging rights on hold.
A Frontier V6 With GT-R Turbo Hardware
The Nissan Frontier pickup truck retains its 3.8-liter V6, but the Ronin adds a rear-mounted twin-turbo system using R35 GT-R hardware. Custom intakes, a front-mounted intercooler and a NISMO Off Road exhaust support the conversion. This keeps the Frontier engine rather than swapping in the GT-R's complete powertrain.
By comparison, the production Frontier makes 310 horsepower without turbocharging. Nissan hasn't released the Ronin's horsepower or torque figures, so claims that it outguns a Ranger Raptor jump ahead of the evidence. Mechanically, the intercooler removes heat from compressed intake air, helping the engine manage the thermal demands of boost.
A Wider Track Does the Heavy Lifting
Titan suspension components help widen the Frontier Ronin concept by 12 inches at the track and raise it more than four inches. That track measurement describes the spacing between the wheels; it doesn't establish overall body width. The changes accommodate 35-inch Yokohama Geolandar X-AT tires on prototype 17-inch NISMO ASCEND beadlock wheels.
| Component | Ronin specification | What the measurement means |
|---|---|---|
| Track increase | 12 inches / 304.8 mm | Wider wheel spacing |
| Suspension lift | More than 4 inches / 101.6 mm | Higher ride height versus the donor |
| Suspension travel | 14 inches / 355.6 mm | Wheel movement through the suspension's stroke |
| Tire diameter | Nominal 35 inches / 889 mm | Larger rolling diameter for rough terrain |
| Wheel diameter | 17 inches / 431.8 mm | Leaves substantial tire sidewall |
The Bilstein Black Hawk package supplies adjustable damping, while CJD Racing long-travel components support the suspension's extended movement. My engineering take: suspension travel matters more than lift alone when a truck must absorb repeated desert bumps. A taller stance cannot substitute for controlled wheel movement.
Brakes and Protection Back Up the Stance
In addition, the Ronin carries a custom big-brake package with six-piston front calipers. Its front rotors measure 335 x 32 mm, or approximately 13.19 x 1.26 inches; rear rotors measure 286 x 18 mm, or 11.26 x 0.71 inches. Those dimensions describe hardware, not a verified stopping-distance advantage.
Nissan also adds:
- NISMO Off Road rock sliders, driving lights and a spare-tire carrier.
- Custom sport bucket seats and additional engine gauges.
- Custom seat belts with topographic-map details.
Can You Buy a Nissan Frontier Ronin?
No. Nissan identifies the Ronin as a concept and offers no purchase price or confirmed production schedule. Its specification sheet also cannot establish real-world MPG, towing performance or durability.
Pro-Tip: If this build inspires your own Frontier upgrades, ask an installer to check tire clearance through full steering lock and suspension compression before ordering larger tires. Evaluate the complete setup, including gearing and braking. A show-truck photograph cannot answer those fitment questions.
