Affordable Mid-Drive Trike: Buzz Cerana T2 Priced at $1,699 USD

Buzz Cerana T2 electric trike

Efficient, Stable, and Budget-Conscious

Buzz Bikes targets a specific user group with the Buzz Cerana T2: people who want a simple, affordable electric trike that balances cost, comfort, and control. Priced at $1,699 USD, the Cerana T2 enters a segment that rarely offers mid-drive motors below the $2,000 threshold.

Its narrow profile, three-wheel stability, and upright seating give the trike strong appeal for urban users who prioritize safety over speed.

Designed for Control, Not Speed

The Buzz Cerana T2 electric trike is built around a step-through aluminum frame and three 24-inch wheels, providing users a low center of gravity. At just 29.5 inches wide, the trike easily fits through standard doorways and gates, a major plus for urban riders and apartment dwellers.

Top speed is 20 mph, regulated to meet Class 2 e-bike standards. While that won’t satisfy speed-hungry riders, this trike isn’t for them. This is about balance, not velocity.

Key dimensions:

Wheel size24 inches (all three)

Max speed20 mph
Weight capacity350 lb (158.8 kg)

Mid-Drive Motor Below $2K: A Rare Combo

Most electric trikes at this price point use hub motors, which reduce production costs but often struggle with inclines and torque. The Cerana T2 goes a different route with a 350-Watt mid-drive motor. This setup gives it superior hill-climbing ability, thanks to power being channeled through the drivetrain.

The torque-sensing mid-drive unit delivers more natural-feeling acceleration and smoother starts than typical cadence-sensor hub motors. That matters for older riders, or those carrying groceries, who need predictable assistance at low speeds.

Powertrain Overview:

  • Motor type: 350W mid-drive
  • Assist levels: 5 pedal-assist modes + throttle
  • Battery: 36V, 10.4Ah (removable)
  • Range: 20–40 miles per charge (rider + terrain dependent)
  • Charging time: 4–6 hours

For comparison, many trikes priced under $2,000 rely on 250W or 500W hub motors that lack torque sensors, making the Cerana T2’s drivetrain a major differentiator.

Strong Utility at Urban Scale

With a 350-lb total capacity and integrated front/rear baskets, this electric trike works for local grocery runs or small cargo hauls. Unlike wider cargo trikes, the Cerana T2's narrower stance allows easy lane sharing and parking. Its total weight of 90 lb means some muscle is needed to move it unassisted, but most users will rely on the throttle and assist modes.

Included accessories increase usability out of the box:

  • Front and rear baskets
  • Fenders on all three wheels
  • Rear light and reflectors
  • Integrated bell

Buzz made a smart call by using standard components. Tires, tubes, and brake pads are easy to replace, reducing maintenance costs long term. For daily riders, that matters more than premium trim pieces or branding.

Notable Limitations

At $1,699 USD, tradeoffs exist. There’s no suspension—neither front fork nor seat post—which may matter on rougher roads. The mechanical disc brakes are basic and may fade under sustained braking, especially on downhill rides with full loads.

The single-speed drivetrain is a limiter on steeper hills. Paired with a mid-drive motor, it works fine for gentle gradients, but climbing with max cargo could strain the motor and rider alike. Other trikes at higher price points add internal gearing for this reason.

Still, in a market flooded with underpowered hub-motor trikes, the Cerana T2 performs better than expected.

Who the Buzz Cerana T2 Is For

Buzz doesn’t target thrill-seekers or off-road explorers. The Cerana T2 is made for utility-focused riders:

  • Older adults or mobility-challenged users who want added stability
  • Urban residents who need a stable ride for errands
  • Budget-conscious commuters seeking mid-drive performance without the $3,000+ price tag

By simplifying the drivetrain and keeping the powertrain efficient, Buzz created an electric trike that meets basic mobility needs without complexity or unnecessary features.

Market Position: Where the Cerana T2 Fits

Electric trikes are a niche within the broader e-bike market, and pricing often reflects low competition. Mid-drive electric trikes from brands like Liberty Trike, Bintelli, or Evelo often retail above $2,500–$4,000 USD.

Buzz undercuts them by at least $800, without cutting corners on drivetrain quality.

Evelo Compass$4,699500W mid-driveFront3-speed
Bintelli Trio$2,599500W hubNone7-speed
Liberty Trike$1,598750W front hubNoneSingle-speed

Even with some features missing, the Cerana T2 holds its own due to its efficient mid-drive system and narrow, functional design.

Bottom Line

The Buzz Cerana T2 is a practical, low-cost electric trike that focuses on stability, ease of use, and value. Its mid-drive motor, narrow width, and 24-inch wheels make it a strong choice for older riders or urban commuters with simple needs.

If you want high performance or advanced features, you’ll need to spend more. But if your priority is balanced performance at a competitive price, the Cerana T2 delivers. @ Buzz Bicycles.
