Ford Revives a Legend: The All-Electric Capri Lands in Norway's EV Paradise

Ford Capri EV

The Norwegian electric vehicle (EV) market, a global leader in EV adoption, just got a jolt of nostalgia with the arrival of the all-new Ford Capri. This isn't your dad's classic coupe; the reborn Capri is a sleek, sporty SUV that blends heritage with cutting-edge electric power.

A Nostalgic Nod with a Forward-Thinking Focus

The name "Capri" evokes memories of the iconic 1960s and 70s sports car. Ford cleverly leverages that nostalgia, attracting a generation of drivers with a soft spot for the original. However, the new Capri is a thoroughly modern machine. Its spacious SUV design caters to today's active lifestyles, offering practicality alongside performance. The new Ford Capri EV is a mid-size, all-electric SUV-coupe with a range of up to 627 km and a starting price of 467,800 kroner ($42.194). It is available in two versions: a rear-wheel drive model and a four-wheel drive model. The car is based on the same platform as the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Performance Packed with Efficiency

The Ford Capri boasts impressive range and power. Extended Range versions, available in both Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configurations, offer a driving range exceeding 620 kilometers (385 miles) on a single charge (WLTP figures). This makes the Capri a compelling choice for long road trips, a common occurrence in Norway's vast landscapes.

Acceleration is exhilarating, with the AWD variant rocketing from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a mere 5.3 seconds. This potent performance is delivered with zero emissions, solidifying the Capri's position as a sustainable powerhouse.

Luxury Meets Technology in the Cabin

The Capri's interior is a haven of comfort and cutting-edge tech. The cabin features a minimalist design with high-quality materials, creating a luxurious and sophisticated environment. The driver-centric cockpit boasts a 14.6-inch central touchscreen that seamlessly integrates with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Ford's SYNC Move technology adds another layer of convenience, allowing the touchscreen to adjust for optimal viewing angles.

A Competitive Landscape: How Does the Capri Stack Up?

The Norwegian EV market is brimming with compelling options. Here's a comparison of the Capri with some key competitors:

FeatureFord Capri RWD Extended RangeAudi e-tron GTTesla Model X
Starting Price (USD)$58,000$100,000$88,000
Range (WLTP)627 km (385 mi)488 km (303 mi)523 km (324 mi)
Acceleration (0-100 km/h)6.4 sec4.5 sec3.8 sec
Seating Capacity557

The Capri offers a compelling combination of range, affordability, and practicality. While competitors like the Tesla Model X boast superior acceleration and seating capacity, their higher price tags may deter budget-conscious buyers.

The Future of Ford in Norway's Electric Kingdom

The arrival of the Capri marks a significant step for Ford in the Norwegian EV market. This strategic move capitalizes on the nation's love for electric vehicles and nostalgia for classic automobiles. With its impressive performance, exceptional range, and luxurious interior, the Capri is poised to become a popular choice among environmentally conscious drivers seeking a blend of practicality and heritage.

Looking ahead, Ford's success in Norway will hinge on its ability to:

  • Continue to innovate and offer competitive EV options.
  • Expand its charging infrastructure network.
  • Adapt to the ever-evolving needs of Norwegian EV drivers.

The all-electric Ford Capri is a powerful symbol of Ford's commitment to the future of electric mobility. Its arrival in Norway, a global leader in EV adoption, could very well be the spark that ignites a new era for the American automaker in this exciting and dynamic market.
