Volkswagen ID.7: A New Era of Long-Distance Electric Cars

Volkswagen ID.7

Volkswagen, one of the world's leading automobile manufacturers, is all set to launch its largest electric car, the ID.7. The world premiere of this flagship electric model is scheduled for April 17, and it is expected to hit the European market this autumn. The ID.7 is positioned as Volkswagen's top model in the ID. family, and it marks an important milestone in the company's ambitious plan to have electric cars account for 80% of its total sales in Europe by 2030.

The ID.7 has been camouflaged and has undergone final test runs in Alicante, Spain, where its strengths were tested on winding and mountainous roads. Kai GrĂĽnitz, head of development, has stated that Volkswagen has used a new, more powerful, and more efficient electric motor and optimized the undercarriage to provide the ID.7 with an outstanding driving experience. The Volkswagen ID.7 is the perfect limousine for long stretches, thanks to its impressive electric powertrain, comfortable undercarriage, and long range.

The ID.7 is positioned in the upper middle class and offers high quality, impressive comfort, and innovative technologies, making it a match for cars in the class above. The ID.7's size, with a width of 1,862 mm, length of 4,961 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,966 mm, provides a luxurious experience of spaciousness. There is also ample room for a 532-liter luggage compartment and large batteries under the floor between the axles.

The Volkswagen ID.7 boasts an elongated shape and a low wind resistance coefficient, with a drag coefficient of approximately 0.23 (depending on the car's equipment) and a frontal area of 2.45 m2, contributing significantly to a range of up to approximately 700 km (WLTP). The car's low wind resistance is a result of smaller details, such as the low front and the horizontal slots on each side of the front bumper that direct air through and out past the front wheels to reduce turbulence down the sides of the car. A diffuser under the bumper ensures the best possible control of the airflow, and details such as the side mirrors and the 20-inch large alloy wheels are designed with optimal aerodynamics in mind.

The ID.7 will be launched in two equipment and powertrain versions, the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro and the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S, with the latter being the most powerful and torquey electric motor in an ID. model so far. The new high-efficiency powertrain developed by Volkswagen includes a new electric motor with an output of 210 kW (286 hp) and a maximum torque of 545 Nm. The rear-wheel-drive ID. models in their strongest variant have run with a 204 hp electric motor so far. The lithium-ion battery is located under the floor between the axles and comes in two sizes: the ID.7 Pro with a 77 kWh battery (82 kWh gross) and the ID.7 Pro S with an 86 kWh battery (91 kWh gross). Early tests indicate how efficient the new powertrain is, with the WLTP range of an ID.7 Pro being up to approximately 615 kilometers and the ID.7 Pro S reaching a maximum range of approximately 700 kilometers.

The ID.7 is a long-distance car that offers high comfort in all driving situations, thanks to its balanced suspension and long wheelbase. The car also offers a high level of dynamics due to the structure of the chassis, the further developed and improved adaptive suspension (DCC), and an optimized Driving dynamics manager. The new model has also significantly improved the adaptive chassis control system (optional). This system adjusts the suspension and shock absorbers to ensure a smooth ride and optimal handling, regardless of the driving conditions.

Another major tech in the new model is the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). The ADAS now includes features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring. These features work together to make driving safer and more enjoyable for the driver and passengers.
