Opel ended 2021 with a significant rise in market share in Germany. According to early estimates, Opel obtained a market share of roughly 6.2 percent in its significant home market - Europe's largest automotive market - for the whole year, with a total of around 162,000 newly registered automobiles. This rise in market share is a nearly 1.2 percentage point gain over 2020.
Despite the challenging framework circumstances, Opel maintained its development path in December and has now raised its market share for 15 months in a straight. With about 15,000 new registrations in December, the German automaker gained a market share of 6.5 percent, which is 1.4 percentage points more than the previous year's total.
"We are thrilled with the rapid growth in our German home market. We intend to maintain this trend in 2022. We have a diverse product offering, including a significant share of electric cars. In addition, several extremely appealing features will be introduced in the coming months with the Opel Astra, Opel Astra Sports Tourer, and Opel Grandland," adds Uwe Hochgeschurtz, Opel CEO.
"A major thanks especially to our dealers who, despite the unfavorable conditions, made a considerable contribution to our market share increases," says Andreas Marx, CEO of Opel Germany. "We may look forward to a prosperous new year."
The Opel Corsa had a vital role in the outstanding performance. Since January 2021, the sixth version of the best-selling compact vehicle has attracted over 50,000 purchasers in Germany alone. Last year, the Opel Corsa was the most popular compact vehicle on the German market. The Opel Corsa was even the best-selling vehicle in Germany in November. According to early data, the new Opel Mokka is also a best-seller, finishing second in the SUV B class in December.

The battery-electric vehicles Opel Corsa-e (winner of the "Golden Steering Wheel 2020") and Opel Mokka-e's popularity in December is incredibly satisfying.
